Digicel formally pledged its commitment to the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports at the official launch ceremony, of the commencement of the Inter Schools Sports Programme, at the Beausejour Indoor Facility on September 24th 2015.
The ceremony, this year started off with a warm and friendly showcase of open racquet table tennis , followed by the National Anthem, Prayer and Speeches from the Ministry officials, participating schools and Sponsors.A short friendly match among the schools in Basket Ball, Netball and Cricket followed every speech.
Mrs. Siobhan James-Alexander,Digicel’s Country Manager who was present at the opening offered a few words on Digicel’s involvement in the initiative“Digicel remains fully committed to supporting youth development through education and sports. Our level of commitment is evident not only through our support of local national heroes such as Darren Sammy West Indies T20 Cricket Captain and Johnson Charles to name a few, but through national sporting events such as School Sports, Cricket, Swimming, Special Olympics and Triathlons. We believe these programmes are essential and extremely important to the overall development of our children from an early age and will only make them better, well rounded and disciplined individuals.”
