Dr Scott Firsing

Senior Research Associate

Scott Firsing is an American politician, business owner and foreign policy analyst. His main research interests include US-Africa relations and the foreign relations of Africa in general. His private consultancy based in Austin, Texas helps foreign companies enter the US and Canadian aerospace markets. He also sits on the Board of the World Affairs Council of
Austin, as well as on the Board of the National Flight Training Alliance based in Washington DC.

Dr Firsing has a Doctorate in International Politics from the University of South Africa (UNISA). His doctoral work focused on US-South Africa relations in the post-apartheid era. Dr Firsing has taught at The Citadel: The Military College of South Carolina, UNC and Coastal Carolina University. He spent 2005-2015 living in South Africa and traveling the globe. While in SA, Dr Firsing worked for Monash University, serving as a Senior Lecturer and Head of the International Studies Department and then as Research Fellow. Dr Firsing also completed fellowships at the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He also worked for several private companies in the defense and intelligence sectors. Dr Firsing is a prolific writer and regular media commentator on US and international issues for major global news agencies.
