In 2018, under the South African Chairship of the tenth BRICS summit, the BRICS leaders committed to; the need to safeguard and strengthen multilateralism, implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, peacekeeping cooperation, further industrial and infrastructure development in Africa, the establishment of a BRICS vaccine centre, tourism and a women’s forum. In addition, the following agreements were signed on; collaborative research on the fourth industrial revolution, a regional aviation partnership, and the establishment of a New Development Bank regional office in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The BRICS agenda is rapidly expanding as the BRICS partners and the world look to Brazil’s Chairship to further discussions. This half day symposium will discuss Brazil’s plans for the eleventh summit and how South Africa will maximize its participation by considering key policy inputs and national expectations in the context of an electoral year.
