He said Ethiopia was inspired by the successful development experience of countries of the Global South and in the same spirit it was ready to share its experiences with others. The Prime Minister said it was symbolic that the Gala, celebrating the achievements of the Global South, was being held during a week when world leaders adopted Agenda 2030 and marked the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. He said remarkable progress had been made towards fulfilling the commitments made at the dawn of the new millennium and to address some of the world’s major socio-economic challenges. He said he was pleased that that Ethiopia’s efforts in achieving most if not all of the MDGs had been recognized, not just in reducing the number of people living in poverty by a third. Ethiopia had achieved rapid and sustained economic growth over the past decade, and expanded access to education and registering marked progress in the implementation of the health related MDGs.
