The roadmap sets out smart investments and proposes concrete actions and targets that countries could adopt to build local capacities, including strengthening basic measurement systems needed to successfully manage and measure health programmes.
It is accompanied by a five-point call to action that sets targets for increasing investments, strengthening institutional capacity, using data more effectively, and promoting accountability and transparency.
Alfonso Lenhardt, the acting administrator of USAID, said that as the Millennium Development Goals were to end this year and be replaced by Sustainable Development Goals, there was an opportunity to shape the future of international development. This needed to include improving health, he added.
