Morocco’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that Fatmi Noureddine, the officer in charge of consular affairs at the Pretoria embassy, was reportedly murdered but noted that the circumstances of his death have yet to be established, the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP) reported.
Agence France-Press quoted a diplomatic colleague of Noureddine as saying that the diplomat was found “in a pool of blood” at his guesthouse in the South African capital.
“The police are very cautious,” the source told AFP said. “It has to be a robbery.”
“He did not turn up for work at the normal time, which seemed strange because he was always on time. His phone was off,” the diplomat added.
