Kutesa, Uganda’s Foreign Minister, was elected president of the 69th Session of the UNGA here on Wednesday.

Taking the floor immediately after his election, Kutesa underlined the different challenges of global reach and impact the world continues to be confronted, calling for concerted action to work on a post-2015 development agenda.

“As we work on a post-2015 development agenda, we must ensure that the sustainable development goals being formulated build on the foundation laid by the MDGs (Millennium Development Goals),” he said, noting the agenda should be holistic, action-oriented, and universally applicable, while paying due attention to the different regional and national realties as well as levels of development
