The annual showcase event that attracts presidents and business tycoons opened amid high security on Wednesday. Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan last week ordered thousands of extra troops to protect the city and dignitaries coming for the three-day forum.
The build-up over the past fortnight was marred by two car bombings in a neighbouring suburb, killing 91 civilians, and the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls. The Islamist terror group Boko Haram, which is blamed for more than 4,000 deaths in Nigeria, has claimed responsibility.
