“In line with the Strategic Plan, we continue to step up our promotion of South-South and Triangular Co-operation,” said Helen Clark, UNDP Administrator, in her opening statement. The new Strategic Plan aims to strengthen the Office’s capacities to deliver on its normative and co-ordination functions, she continued, emphasizing that “the Office has played, and will continue to play, an important role in bringing the UN system together in support of South-South co-operation.”Rebecca Grynsapn, UNDP Associate Administrator, noted that UNDP’s own new Strategic Plan 2014-2017 (DP/2013/40)establishes South-South and Triangular cooperation as one of the core ways of working for the organization. “Essential to UNDP’s efforts,” Ms. Grynsapn said, “is our continued commitment to providing the UN Office for South-South Cooperation with the confidence and the means for it to perform effectively its functions as a global and UN system-wide coordinator for South-South cooperation. We see this as a two way relationship, with both the Office and UNDP leveraging each other’s expertise, strength and mandates, and reinforcing our collective synergies.”
