The Summit was attended by the Heads of State and Government and their Representatives and was chaired by H.E. Robert Gabriel Mugabe, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Deputy Chairperson of the SADC. Among other issues the summit considered the situation in Madagascar and upon the receipt of the report from H.E. Hifikepunye Pohamba, President of the Republic of Namibia and Chairperson of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, on the political developments in Madagascar; the summit congratulated the newly elected Malagasy President H.E. Hery Rajaonarimampianina. The summit also commended SADC members for their generous contributions made to ensure successful holding of elections in Madagascar.
