She has been unveiling her party’s foreign policy at the Cape Town Press Club. Ramphele says all countries persuade their national interests and it would be surprising if China would be coming to Africa as charitable venture. She says: “They are here to extract the maximum benefit for their own benefit, for China, it is natural. The issue is how Africa responds and relates to China in a way that protects Africa’s own interests and South Africa being the biggest economy in Africa is ought to protect its own interest.”
