The objectives of the project include:

• Building a better understanding of the institutional machinery for implementation of the SADC agenda or for effective regional integration in the context of changing regional trends;
• Rethinking ways in which South Africa’s regional leadership could be applied through the championing of regional institutional strengthening, by projecting South Africa as a responsible regional power;
• Provide valuable insights into how institutional strengthening at the point where national and regional institutions interface could translate into development and stability for the region’s citizens;
• Generate specific, concrete and practical policy advice on institutional strengthening and how South Africa could champion it.
