On the 23-25 April 2012 the IGD, hosted an environmental diplomacy short course at Leriba Lodge, Pretoria. The focus was on building a better understanding of environmental negotiations as well as the nature and processes involved in these complex discussions. The short course brought together officials from across Africa in an intensive two day discussion on Africa and environmental diplomacy as well as the practice of negotiations. The reception dinner saw delegates welcomed by Dr Siphamandla Zond, Director of the IGD and Ambassador Kari M. Bjørnsgaard of Norway. Ambassador John Tesha, Executive Secretary of the Forum for Former African Heads of State and Government, set the context for the two day deliberations in his insightful opening address, giving specific consideration to the role of Africa in environmental negotiations.
