Dr Ampiah is the head of Japanese Studies section of the Department of East Asian Studies at Leed University in the UK. He holds a BA from the International Christian University in Japan; an MA from Windsor University, Ontario Canada, and a PhD from Oxford University in the UK. He has authored a large number of publications on East Asia’s relations with Africa, beginning with the seminal treatise of the dynamics that underpin Japan’s relations with Africa entitled Dynamics of Japan’s Relations with Africa: South Africa, Tanzania and Nigeria published in 1997by Routledge, London. He is the co-editor of the much-vaunted book volume entitled: Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon? Africa and China (Pietermaritzburg, UKZN Press, 2008) and The Political and Moral Imperatives of the Bandung Conference of 1955: The Reactions of the US, UK and Japan (London: Global Oriental, 2007).  His research expertise cover issue like Japan’s post-war diplomacy and international relations, Japan’s relations with Africa, Sino-African relations and broadly International Political Economy. Dr Ampiah has been associated with the IGD since 2006.
