Reconciling National Interests and Values: A Dilemma for South Africa’s Foreign Policy?

 

South Africa’s foreign policy and human rights are inherently linked. Yet there remains significant debate on the pursuit of these values in the country’s international affairs. This report, based on a discussion forum between government and civil society stakeholders, seeks to unpack the challenges facing the country in terms of balancing values and interests and how this will reflect in the country’s diplomatic practice and foreign policy decision making.
