Many developing countries have had to evaluate their programmes aimed at stimulating and sustaining economic growth and development. South Africa, despite being the most developed and diversified economy on the continent, is no different. To this end, President Zuma appointed the National Planning Commission in 2010, who through a process of rigorous consultation, put forward what is today known as South Africa’s National Development Plan (NDP) or Vision 2030.

The 26th summit of the African Union (AU) will focus on strategies to advance gender parity, women’s rights and inclusive development, a senior AU official has said. The summit is scheduled to hold in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Jan. 30. Aisha Laraba Abdullahi, AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, made the statement on Thursday in Addis Ababa while briefing newsmen.

ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- The African Union (AU) emphasized on unleashing the potential of youth towards sustainable development on the continent.
Martial De-Paul Ikounga, AU Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology (HRST) made these remarks when addressing a press conference organized in the framework of the 26th AU Summit in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa.
New sustainable development agenda to guide development for the next 15 years

NEW YORK, USA -- The new year ushered in the official launch of the bold and transformative 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by world leaders last September at the United Nations. The new agenda calls on countries to begin efforts to achieve 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) over the next 15 years.
Supported by the Department for International Development (DFID) UK, this 3 year project focuses on deepening the understanding of the international politics of development diplomacy, including the key political drivers that influence and shape development policy internationally and the impact this has on South Africa as an emerging development assistance partner.
This project considers three key areas:
- The development of the South African Development Partnership Agency (SADPA);
- Trilateral development partnerships; and
- Multilateral development cooperation.
The aims of this project include:
- improving the understanding of the current transition taking place within multilateral development cooperation in both the geo-political North and South;
- understanding the role of multilateral development cooperation for South Africa’s foreign policy and international engagement in the short, medium, and long-term;
- review potential opportunities as well as obstacles in engaging in international development assistance
